Constructing the jetty at Loch Ness

July 19, 1978

On July 19th, 1978, the work starts on the new 72ft jetty, as Dr. King took the sledgehammer and drove in the marker stake so that work could begin.

A strong workforce from the Northern Branch of The Aetherius Society, along with London staff members, worked day and night to get the pier ready.

In the process, they moved over thirty-five tons of rock and drove in several dozen wooden stakes into the stony loch bottom – by hand.

After the initial frame was built, the sides were covered with chicken wire mesh right down to the base in the water. Then loads of rocks were collected from the surrounding area and were taken in barrows and buckets to the jetty to act as ballast.

It was hard, back-breaking, cold work for the team – but they all loved it, for the purpose was to help in Operation Sunbeam!
